RULES & RESOURCES
Please review the Favorite Foods Show Handbook which will be key to your success at this year’s Favorite Foods Show!
The Favorite Foods Show is a cherished 4-H tradition that combines event planning, table setting, nutrition, and creativity. These steps will guide you through your preparation for this year’s show!
Step 1: Choose Your Favorite Holiday Sweet Treat
Select a dessert you love to make or eat. Write out a recipe with ingredients and instructions.
Step 2: Pick a Theme
Decide on an event theme—like a fancy holiday party or a family potluck. Consider the formality, which will influence your table setting (e.g., fine china for formal, colorful plasticware for casual).
Step 3: Set Your Table
Arrange your table according to your theme. Ensure you have the right plates, glasses, and utensils for each menu item. Include a tablecloth, centerpiece (optional), recipe card, and serving utensils.
Step 4: Competition Day
Prepare your dish at home and arrive early to set up at the Lenoir County Extension Office. Set up begins at 4:30 PM. Competition starts at 5:30 PM. Review the scorecard for judging criteria.
Important Tips:
Ensure your recipe card is visible and legible.
Make sure all elements (recipe card, setting, food) coordinate.
Choose a dish you’re comfortable discussing.
Keep food at the right temperature; no prep space is available.
Don’t forget to smile!
