Are you interested in cooking, nutrition, food safety, or food systems? The Extension Master Food Volunteer Program provides North Carolina residents the opportunity to engage with their communities by supporting N.C. Cooperative Extension programming in the areas of cooking, nutrition, food safety, or food systems. N.C. Cooperative Extension provides evidence-based information through community classes and events.

The Extension Master Food Volunteer program allows community citizens to assist extension agents in their communities. As an Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) you can assist with nutrition education programs, food demos, food videos, and answering nutrition and food questions at the farmer’s market.

Extension Master Food Volunteers must complete the EMFV application and an interview. Complete the mandatory 30 hours of training, 30 hours of shadowing your supervising agent in the first year, contribute 20 hours of volunteer service each year, and 10 hours of continuing education. You will talk with your supervising agent to discuss your volunteer interest and skills to find the best fit for you.

The cost to attend the training is $45.00. Applications are open now and are due back to either the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Nash or Edgecombe County office by January  10, 2021. Register online

Training will begin in February. Training will be online. Participants will have one week to complete weekly online assignments and then have office hours if needed with Agent at end of the week to discuss the weeks lesson. The first initial meeting will be in person and the cooking skills and demonstration class will be in person. We will discuss as a group the best date and time for the in person lessons. The online platform should allow for more people to be able to participate since they can access the classes at their convenience.
